A second life for Ocean Park
4 November 2021/ Water World waterpark opened at Ocean Park Hong Kong last month /
After almost half a century of operation, struggling to stay afloat in recent years, at the beginning of 2021 the historic Ocean Park in Hong Kong had decided to change course and reposition itself no longer as just an amusement park (see article in G&PI 02 21), but as a holiday resort for multi-day stays and a leisure destination aimed at tourists and locals.
Ocean Park is then transforming and a tangible proof of the park’s revamping is the opening of Water World on September 21, a brand-new waterpark spanning nearly 6.5ha of a hillside in Hong Kong Southern district. “This opening means a lot to Ocean Park as it marks the first step in our transformation into a world-class resort for discovery, learning and fun,” said Mr Ming-wai Lau, chairman of Ocean Park Corp. “Everyone has been longing for the opening of Water World Ocean Park to enjoy some new experiences in Hong Kong. It is now here and ready to excite our senses in a new, fun and adventurous setting.”
Set in a unique location where ocean views combine with stunning landscapes, the year-round waterpark takes full advantage of the site, using terraces platforms and outdoor areas in addition to indoor spaces. The park features 5 themed zones, home to 27 attractions. Among them, Hong Kong’s first-ever indoor surfing simulator (Surf Striker), 9 state-of-the-art waterslides, 2 wave pools and the Whiskers’ Splash water playground.
